October 2018
Sunny Memories Camping Notes, August 16, 2018
The Sunny Memories October campout at Brown County State Park is now history....and it was historic in that it was too cold for the golfers to play, and too cold for a campfire....it would have taken a bonfire! Then today, the day we all left, was probably the warmest day in the last week! As always, we enjoyed being together, and there were FIVE units present. We all came in at different times, starting with Bodines on Friday (I believe), McPhersons on Saturday, Judds and Vucksons on Sunday, and Colberts on Monday. It was cold and overcast, but we all went to town and wandered in and out of the many shops. That evening we tried a new restaurant, suggested by Mary Brown. It's called the Big Woods restaurant at Hard Truth Hills, which is a distillery. It is behind the 4 Seasons Hotel/Conference center, and was very inviting. The food was very good, and I think we all would go back again....Thanks, Mary!
Tuesday started out much brighter, but still pretty cold. The ladies all wanted to go to the Farmhouse Cafe & Tearoom, and 3 of the guys joined us. It is a few miles from town, and part of a Garden Center....(I'm pretty sure it was Mary that introduced us to this place as well). The girls rode with Pat, and the guys rode with Bodine in the truck. There was some misunderstanding about directions, but the guys eventually made it. It is such a rustic old house, and we discovered they have upstairs rooms for diners as well. We had a room to ourselves, filled with antiques, dried flowers, and even an open closet with some old clothing hanging up. Good food!
That evening we had the buffet at the Lodge, and lingered at our table to decide on campgrounds for next year. It was done in the usual way, and the list for 2019 campgrounds follows. By the way, 2019 marks 20 years since the Sunny Memories Club was started. We hope to plan some way to celebrate this, and see some former members again.
We will have 3 weekday campouts, and it was decided they would start on a Monday - Wed. (or however long you want to stay).
May 13, 14, 15, 2019 - Bailey's Point on Barren River Lake (weekday)
June 14, 15, 16, 2019 - Spring Mill State Park
July 12,13, 14, 2019 - Starve Hollow
August 12, 13, 14, 2019 - Versailles State Park (weekday)
Sept. 13, 14, 15, 2019 - Elkhorn Creek (Frankfort, KY)
October 14, 15, 16, 2019 - Charlestown State Park (weekday)
Last month, Bob Hess introduced Jim and Lois Lewis to the Club, and we sure hope they will be able to join us as often as they can.
The first snowbirds will be flying south next week, and we pray for safe travels for all.... as always,
Happy Trails !

Sunny Memories Camping Notes, August 16, 2018
This was a ‘weekday’ campout, with 5 units camping at Clifty Falls State Park. Needless to say, it was very quiet! The Judds, Bodines, McPhersons, and Smiths went in early…(Fri - Sat, I think), and Colberts got there Sunday afternoon, in time for our hot dog/pitch-in meal. Since there are so few of us, we have just made ‘hospitality’ night a pitch-in, just taking turns where we gather. Sunday night was a little more special. since several birthdays happen in August. There was birthday cake Saturday night for Debbie and Frank, and for Becky and Jerry on Sunday night. Other August birthdays include Ron Vuckson, Charlotte Coleman, and Butch Cook….sorry you missed the yummy cake!
Monday was golf day, but Frank couldn’t play due to an injury a few days earlier…he was having a lot of discomfort, so they decided to pull out Monday afternoon and go to ER. Turned out to be a cracked rib, so will hopefully heal before they start on a long road trip out west this weekend. Pat and Becky went into Madison for a little sightseeing, and toured an interesting historic home. That evening found us all at Harry’s Stone Grill for dinner. Bob Hess drove over to join us, and we heard about his recent trip (in his motorhome) to Asheville, NC. On his way home, he went through two severe storms and later realized the cover on his A/C had been blown off. So, no camping for Bob for a while.
Tuesday, some of us went to Madison again to check out the many shops on Main St. Dave & Joy got to the campground before lunch, so we decided to forget leftovers and went to eat lunch in Madison. We liked the Red Pepper Cafe which is small, but has a larger room upstairs. The food was good, and we caught up with each other over lunch and later at the campground. Dave and Joy have been on an Anniversary cruise to Denmark, Russia, etc. John Bodine just returned from a business trip to Italy, so we enjoyed hearing about their travels. That evening we gathered at the Smith’s for our evening visit. Gleeann has a torn ligament that was bothering her quite a bit, so we went to her to save her the walk. Hope that feels better soon, Gleeann. Keith and Jerry were in Scottsburg playing in their golf league all evening.
Also, the Bodine children and grandchildren visited off and on over the long weekend. It was fun to see the little ones!
As always, it was good to spend time with friends, sitting outside under a shade tree, and sharing stories!
There are still many of you who have health issues, but I’m glad to report that Vickie Hurst’s wrist is out of the splint, and she is getting therapy for her hand which has been immobile for a long time. She is FINALLY able to drive again, so that is good news. Tom McNulty has opted to postpone the next surgery until May of 2019, so he and Judy have flown to FL. We pray they will have a time of peace and that they enjoy their time in FL. Jean Ann is recovering well from her back surgery in July, and it seems to have been successful! She is eager to get back to feeling better and getting out more.
That’s about all, Folks, and if I’ve left out something, or forgotten someone, I’m playing the ‘Forgetful due to Age’ card.
Next camping is at Charlestown State Park on weekend of Sept. 14. Target sites are 69 and 102. Join us if you can. (Colberts will be on a road trip out west, so we’ll see you in October!)
Wishes for Happy Trails and Good Health to you all!

October 2017
We were in Brown County State Park.
Bodines, Vucksons, Judds, McPhersons, and Colberts were camping.
We had an enjoyable time. Some arrived on Sunday and Frank and Marilyn came in on Monday.
We had hospitality on Monday evening and Tuesday we ate in Nashville. Jadden joined us on both evenings. Mary Brown spent part of the day Monday with us. The Bumps also joined us on Tuesday.
I thank John for running our selection of campsites for 2018.
May 11 Versailles State Park
June 8 Mounds/Brookville
July 13 Whites Acres Campground in Bardstown KY
August Weekdays 13-14-15 Clifty Falls State Park
September 14 Charlestown State Park
October Weekday 15-16-17 Possibly Brown County State Park.
Our weather was good and as always our family gatherings were great!
NOTES for Sunny Memories camping, Sept. 7-10, 2017 at Charlestown State Park
Once again, we had great weather, campfires, and good fellowship for the weekend. We had 5 units this time. Mel was back with us, the Smiths, Colberts, Bodines, and Judds. In addition, we were happy to welcome Dennis and Karen…….. friends of the Bodines. They were able to join us for two nights and we sure hope they will camp with us again!
As usual, the boys played golf, and the girls shopped! Butch and Jean came over so Butch could play golf, and Jean to join up with the girls. Charley and Vickie came for hospitality, and Bob and Rita joined us in time for dessert. With everyone pitching in, we had another memorable meal and hot dog roast!
On Saturday, the Park was offering a guided tour and hike of Rose Island. This is in the Ohio River, adjacent to the park and accessible by a bridge. Formerly an amusement park and popular summer venue, it has a few remaining signs of its former glory. Jerry and Pat were the brave ones to take this hike and thoroughly enjoyed it. Pat has posted several very good pictures on the club’s Facebook page.
We had dinner on Saturday evening at the Copper Kettle, a family restaurant in Charlestown. Charley and Vickie joined us again, and I believe all enjoyed their meal. Becky & Keith left from there to attend a marching band contest in Columbus, IN (grandson involved)., but another campfire was on the agenda.
Sunday was another beautiful day, and very quiet in the campground. Pat, Jerry and Mel stayed another night so the boys could golf one more time on Monday.
Only two September birthdays, Rich Young and Keith Colbert. Vuckson’s will celebrate a wedding anniversary.
The McNulty’s are back in Indiana for the next year due to Tom’s medical issues and the need for another surgery. They have an independent living Villa in New Albany, and right now are settling in and keeping numerous doctor appointments.
Our snowbirds are getting close to their return to FL, in fact, Rich is there now. Southern Pines had some roof damage to the clubhouse, and there was a lot of debris, but looks like it will be ready for the winter. Dave and Joy are returning from a train trip to the west coast, and I hope they will come to Brown County so we can hear about their latest adventures.
Our last campout of the year will be at Brown County State Park on October 15-18. (Weekdays).
Bodines are hosting, and we hope to see you there!
Happy Trails to all,
Becky Colbert
August 2017
We had an amazing weekend. Camping were the Smith's, Colberts, Bodine's, and Judd's. Lodging were the Bumps, and Rutters. Attending campfires and dinners were: Vucksons, Hursts, Young, Brown, Rutter's Daughter and son-in-law, & Cooks. A wonderful weekend.
Several visited on Sunday afternoon. Monday many were at the campground during the day while the three amigos golfed. We moved from spot to spot to keep out of the sun but kept pretty comfortable. Hospitality was on Sunday night and as usual we had a feast. Monday night was at Harry's Stone Grill. 22 folks enjoyed a variety of food food.

Tuesday Jean Rutter, Pat and Jean's daughter made a trip to Vevay for a quilt store (I know everyone is surprised.) Keith and Becky toured downtown Madison after breakfast with the Bumps and Rutters at the Lodge. I hear the size of the pancakes were more than "super sized".
Wednesday morning we all cleared out of the campground and left it to the next folks to enjoy.
I heard that Tom McNulty had been home one day this week as part of the PT to see if he was strong enough to do things on his own.
I received the following note from Tommy this afternoon.
"Spoke with the case manager today. Everything is pointing for Dad to get out of here on Friday and go home. He is still pretty weak, we will continue rehab and nursing care at home for a couple weeks. Fingers crossed."

I also talked to Bob Hess on the phone this afternoon as we left the campground. He reminded me that they will be having their 67th wedding anniversary in a couple weeks. He was excited to hear that we will be coming to Charlestown State Park in September. He says they are both doing good. He had company and airport trips when we were camping or they would have come to visit.
Also, I want to thank everyone for my gift, which I received on Monday night at the dinner! I had no clue.........you are all very good at keeping a secret!!!! Thank you again, it was not necessary, but very nice.
Now I will sign off for this evening.
NOTES for Sunny Memories Camping, JULY 13-16, 2017
We were 6 units this month at Versailles State Park - Bodines, Colberts, Colemans, Judds, McPhersons, and Smiths. We had good sites, and good weather. Colemans had the most shade, so we had campfires and conversations there until Colemans left on Saturday.
The Colberts especially appreciated Dexter’s help in getting our board water tank to fill….it’s been a problem for years, and he found a solution that allowed us to have plenty of on board water….(this is especially important to Becky !!!).
Saturday morning the golfers left for what turned out to be a beautiful golf course near Milan. Thankfully, Pat had the car, so some of us went into Versailles to sight see, shop, eat, etc. The Visitor’s Center lady was very helpful, loading us up with brochures, maps, and suggestions. We had seen, and read about, an unusual Methodist Church in town, (called the Tyson Temple), and this time we were able to go inside. It was beautiful, and has such an interesting history. Never know what you will find in a small town. We enjoyed browsing a shop or two, quilt store stop (of course), a large Amish bakery and deli/grocery store on 421 a few miles out, and finally lunch at the local Dairy Queen on a picnic table outside.
Our hospitality time was hosted by McPhersons, and it was yummy! Thank you, Marilyn!
If we gave a prize for most unusual hot dog stick, it would have gone to Bill Smith….I’m not sure of the number, but it had “branches” on it that could accommodate quite a few dogs at a time.
Saturday did not have any group activities planned until the evening meal. The Colberts met their daughter at the Ertel Cellars Winery near Batesville for lunch, and brought her back to the campground for more visiting and meeting more of our friends. This included the Vucksons and the Hursts who drove up to visit and go to dinner with the Club.
At the suggestion of the Visitors Center lady, we went to the Osgood Grub Company in Osgood, IN, just a short drive from Versailles. A large family restaurant, they had a back room that would accommodate a large party. There were 15 of us, including Mary Brown who drove over to meet us at the restaurant. I understand the ribs, fried chicken and salmon were excellent choices. It was so good, that the Judds and Bodines returned on Sunday for their $10 buffet lunch!
After dinner, we returned to our campfire, altho we sat back a ways at first. Frank taught Becky to play Soduku, and Keith quickly picked up on the phone app version with Pat’s help. Eventually some of us got a little closer to the fire, as the day cooled off. Does this sound familiar? We think about, and miss all of you who have camped with us over the years,
Most of us left Sunday morning, but I know the Judds stayed over another night.
We will be at Clifty Falls for a weekday campout starting Sunday, 8/13. Colberts hosting.
Updates;
No new updates on Tom McNulty…keep them in your prayers, please.
Becky is doing well….trying to be stress-free as suggested. :)
Hope all of you are doing well, paying attention to any new problems/symptoms, and staying cool!
Happy Trails
Becky Colbert
June, 2017, Sunny Memories Notes
On 6/8/17 the Bodines, Judds, Smiths (including daughter, Rain), and Colberts gathered at Brookville Lake SRA Campground, for 3 nights of good fellowship, good food, campfires, and perfect (if a little windy) weather!
Friday saw the usual golf outing…. it was a two-some with John driving the cart and enjoying the views of a beautiful golf course with views of the lake. Some went into Brookville, shopped a little, went to the Visitors Center and loaded up on a bag (gift) full of brochures, a cup, and ballpoint pen! Also got suggestions for lunch which turned out well. (the Korners’ Kountry Kitchen) We drove around a little, enjoyed the many beautifully restored houses, visited a salon and boutique, found out the Farmers Market opens in the afternoon (and was a ‘bust’ when John went back later). But the local and handy IGA had all we needed. I believe Pat found the fabric store later….:)
Hot Dog night was co-hosted by Becky and Pat with contributions from Gleeann and Debbie. Always plenty to eat, and a campfire to enjoy!
Saturday was another beautiful day, and a full campground!
We started the day with a Brunch prepared by Jerry and John. Since there were only 9 of us, John wanted to make omelets to order for everyone. Yummy and something new for us! Blueberry pancakes, sausage, bacon, watermelon, cantaloupe….my mouth is watering just writing about it! Big thank you to the chefs!
The Colemans drove over to visit before going out to dinner. They got to witness Becky receiving a big ‘splat” from overhead, landing on a clean white shirt (NOT HAIR, like Betty Pack’s experience.) Ugh, think they found some blueberries to eat.
Pretty soon, the Vucksons drove in with Rick and Sandi Judd, and Sandy Stoner (neighbor to Colberts and part of our Friday night Cracker Barrel crowd). Eventually made our way to Ainsleys Cafe on Brookville Lake…very popular place with lake view, marina, etc. After a good meal there, we all returned to campground for dessert and another campfire.
We never forget those who are having health struggles, and those who have given up their units. We learned about Bob Rutter’s need for bypass surgery, and are praying for a successful outcome from surgery this Thursday, the 15th, in Indianapolis. Bill Smith has had a lot of health issues and recently acquired one of those defibrillator/pacemaker gadgets. He looked good to us and they have reservations to camp each month this year!
Mary Brown is still dealing with effects of Bells Palsy, anemia, and fatigue.
Tom continues to recuperate in FL, with more surgery in the future.
Charley still struggling with back pain, hoping to get some answers/help soon.
There are probably others I have missed, but those are foremost on my mind right now.
All reasons to lift each other up in prayer, live each day to the fullest, and be thankful!
Next month is Versailles SP….hope to see you there!
Happy Trails,
Becky
Sunny Memories September 2016
The September, 2016, meeting of Sunny Memories, at General Butler SP, began with a welcome from president, Pat Judd. There were 8 units attending, the Bodines, Cooks, Colberts, Colemans, Judds, Hursts, McPhersons, and Mel Sodergren. We were glad to welcome Ed and Kathy Engnath, who were visiting the Hursts and joined us for the day.
The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
There were no minutes from previous campout.
Treasurer’s Report - $105 in dues collected in June, which brings total in treasury to $423.00. Butch made a motion to accept the report, Keith seconded and motion passed.
Pat thanked the McPhersons for hosting this weekend, as well as help from Hursts, and others who added to a GREAT meal. There was no fire for hot dogs, but we had more than enough to eat!
Prayer Requests and Updates - Judy (Customers First co owner) has advanced cancer, Judy McNulty is in FL and was expecting to have more back surgery, but doctor has suggested conservative treatment first, so we are hoping she gets good results. Jean Ann Brooks is having a lot of allergy problems, and drs. are still trying to find cause of stroke-like symptoms she has had.
Birthdays this month are Keith - 9/27, and Rich - 9/28. Anniversary for Vucksons on 9/22.
Next meeting will be October 16 - 18 at Brown County SP with Bodines as host.
After discussing campgrounds for 2017, Pat suggested everyone there write down their 3 favorite campgrounds in order, and she will compile results. Final decision will be made on Saturday evening.
A discussion of election of officers followed. Bylaws state that officers can only hold office for 2 consecutive years, and all current officers have completed their 2 years. However, there are no new candidates agreeable to serve. Since we no longer answer to a governing body (Sunny Travelers), we decided to disregard this rule. As a result, Butch moved that Pat continue as president, John as vp/wagonmaster, and Becky as Secretary as well as treasurer. Debbie seconded, and motion carried.
Jerry made a motion that membership dues be discontinued starting in 2017, that money continue to be disbursed as needed, and that when treasury nears $100, we ask for a free will offering. Keith seconded this, and the motion carried. (expenses are bereavement gift, charitable donation at Christmas, and a few small expenses such as firewood, etc.)
Pat reports that Jean Ann’s address has been updated, and Frank McPherson will soon have a new address.
Our group dinner on Saturday night will be at Jewell’s on Main in Warsaw, we will be leaving at 4:30. Also reminded us that hosts will be needed for campouts next year.
The meeting was adjourned with a prayer by John Bodine.
On Saturday, the results of the campground survey were agreed on with the following schedule:
2017 camping schedule and host for month
May 12-14 @Bailey’s Point, Judd
June 9 - 11 @ Brookville Mounds,
July 14 - 16 @ Versailles, McPherson
August 13 - 16 (Mid week) @Clifty, Colbert
September 8 - 10 @ Charlestown,
October 15 - 18 (mid-week) @Brown Co., Bodine
It was a hot and humid weekend until rains/front went through on Saturday. Sunday weather was wonderful!
There was conversation about a group trip to Mackinac, Michigan in 2017, possibly in Sept. Something to think about!
The boys played golf twice, and there was shopping at the VF Outlet Mall. We enjoyed our visiting together, and did not really miss a campfire! The Colberts had visits from Keith’s family who live in the area. His sister recommended her favorite restaurant, Jewell’s on Main in Warsaw. About a 25 min. drive, Pat had made reservations for this popular restaurant for Saturday evening. I think everyone enjoyed it…we would definitely go back! Ron and Nancy Vuckson met us there, and then came back to campground for a while. We really had a good turnout this month.
The biggest hit of the weekend was meeting our newest furry member, Miss Bailey Jo Cook. A tiny Schnauzer, brown and white, she looks more like a toy than a real dog!
Judds, Cooks, Colberts and Mel stayed until Monday….Chef Jerry treated the Cooks and Mel to one of his famous breakfasts….Becky wanted to go to the Lodge :)
August 2016
Sunny Memories Notes from August camping! Some of you have probably seen Pat’s pictures and report on our Facebook page, but for those who don’t do Facebook, I will try to fill you in, without pictures! There is one picture of us sitting around the campfire, holding umbrellas, but it really was just a ‘misting’ and drops from the trees :) Once again we dodged showers, but managed campfires 3 nights and had hospitality outside instead of the ‘progressive’ meal we thought we might need to have.
PLEASE NOTE - THERE WILL BE A MEETING IN SEPTEMBER…..so please be thinking about campgrounds, hosts, and officers for 2017. We will be voting!
There were 5 units enjoying O’Bannon Woods State Park…..the Hess’s in their new cozy motor home, the Cook’s in their newly repaired unit, the Bodines, Judds, and Colberts! Jean Cook had signed up for hospitality, and since she has been pretty tired following her stroke, some of us thought she might need some help…..NOT! Our Jean has turned the corner, and Butch says she had the time of her life cooking up a storm! We enjoyed all the offerings from everyone there! I do have to mention that we were all glad that Ron Vuckson has a birthday this month, because Nancy made a 3 layer German Chocolate cake that I believe is Ron’s fav. Jerry and Becky and Butch also have August birthdays, in fact Butch had his birthday while there, and really enjoyed our rendition of Happy Birthday song :) Charlotte also has a birthday this month! Bob and Rita have an anniversary on 8/26….just did the math…WHAAAAT! 66 years! That deserves a card, friends! So good to have them around the campfire, and with an RV to sleep in!
Since this was a weekday event, we had hospitality on Sunday evening, and dinner out on Monday evening…we had the campground pretty much to ourselves….very quiet….don’t think we even saw a DNR vehicle go by. The boys got to play golf Monday middle of the day. We always have to go to the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth while we’re in the area, and we enjoyed showing Bodines one of our favorite places. It was sunny when we got there about 5:00 with the stunning views from two sides of the room….then it started to rain a little on one side, while sunny out the other window….then the rain shifted, and fog rolled in and we couldn’t see the river….then it all cleared up and was beautiful again….all within an hour. (doesn’t take much to entertain us ) Food did not disappoint…especially the desserts! You may remember their cream pies with the HUGE meringue….special was bread pudding made with some special kind of rum….oh my goodness!
That left Tuesday, and time to explore the area….again, Bodine’s first trip to Corydon, so with the Colberts did the historical tour of the Capital and home of the first governor, a stop at Shireman’s Farm Market for fresh peach ice cream, and lunch at a neat little restaurant on the square! While in the Visitor’s Center, John and Debbie ran into a lady who knows John’s secretary (she lived in Corydon 17 years ago). Pictures were taken and sent. We also ran into a group from Scottsburg at the Capital Building tour, so Becky and Keith had to behave. Some visited the Zimmerman glass factory, and a very nice quilt shop (surprise!!!). Butch told us that Dan Adams and his brother stopped by, they are volunteers there every Tuesday! Sorry we missed you, Dan, we always hope you and Donna can camp with us again!
That’s about all I can remember, so if I’ve left out anything important, I’m sorry….remember, I have a birthday this month :).
We always enjoy catching up on everyone’s activities, health, grandkids, etc. so stay in touch, friends, even if you can’t be with us.
Next month we will be at another old favorite, General Butler SP in Carrollton, KY. on Sept. 9. I have it on good authority that the Hursts will be visiting and bringing Ed and Kathy Engnath with them, so hope many of you can join us as well.
Wishing good health and safe travel for you all!
Becky Colbert
Four units gathered at Versailles State Park on July 8. Though few in number, the Judds, Bodines, Colemans and Colberts had a good time! We were happy to have Bob and Jean Rutter join us for the day on Saturday. Since we had a pretty good thunderstorm on Friday, we moved our hot dog night to Saturday, and went to the Crossroads Restaurant in Versailles on Friday evening. When the weather cleared, it was very comfortable to be outside, and we had our first CAMPFIRE of the season!
There was some sightseeing in Versailles which has an interesting history. There is even a one lane covered bridge that leads to a shortcut from the Park into town. The town is in the center of an area used as part of the Underground Railroad for escaping slaves. There are maps and details of the various stops for those interested. There is also a very unique church with an interesting history. The ladies enjoyed the Farmers Market in Versailles on Saturday morning. Add to that, a very nice quilt store! The Colberts made a short side trip to the Ertel Cellars Winery with happy results. Only drawback to Versailles is lack of a golf course….
There was no business meeting this month.
Next month we will gather during the week of Aug. 14 at O’Bannon State Park near Corydon. Some sites I know are taken are 124, 83, and 85. I believe we have eaten at the Overlook Restaurant when we’ve camped at O’Bannon. Hmmmmm….something to think about.
The Judds had hosted a pitch in meal at their home on a Friday evening recently, and we had a chance to catch up and visit with Mary Brown, the Bumps, Cooks, Hursts, McNultys, Vucksons, McPhersons. It was good to see Jean Cook as she is recovering from a stroke and doing great! It always feels like a family reunion when we can be together!
Hope to see you in August,
Becky Colbert
Sunny Memories June, 11, 2016 Minutes
Campout was held at Charlestown State Park. Those camping were: Colberts, Smiths, Vucksons, Judds and Bodines.
Sunny Memories Meeting was held at home of Bob and Rita Hess in Charlestown, after they had provided a wonderful breakfast for us!
Attending the meeting - Bob and Rita Hess, Rich and Linda Young, Mel Sodergren, Charey and Vickie Hurst, Ron and Nancy Vuckson, Keith and Beck Colbert, Bill and Gleeann Smith and their daughter, Raine, John and Debbie Bodine, and Jerry and Pat Judd.
Meeting opened by President, Pat Judd, with the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.
Minutes of the October 2015 were read by Pat Judd. No changes or additions were noted. They were approved as read.
Pat also gave the Treasurer’s report since our treasurer, Jean Cook, was unable to attend campout. As of June 7, 2016, the general fund was $198, Bereavement fund was $135, for a total balance of $333.00.
We thanked the Colbert, our hosts for the weekend. As usual they did a wonderful job with Hospitality on Friday night. With temperatures in the 90’s we opted to forgo the campfire and set up two big fans to keep us a tad more cool than the breeze was doing.
Bill Smith was recognized for his birthday coming up on the 30th.
Jerry and Pat are celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary on the 26th.
Prayer needs mentioned were for Mary Brown, Jean Rutter, and Jean Ann Brooks.
There was no Old Business to discuss.
New Business:
Pat questioned if we needed to continue having dues for the club. After several points of discussion, Mel Sodergren made a motion to continue with the annual dues of $15, and that we maintain one fund for both general and bereavement needs. The fund will be used for bereavement gifts and expenses that might be incurred by the club. Bill Smith seconded the motion, and it carried with no opposing votes.
Keith brought up that he had several items from a friend that works with Dometic, to distribute to our camping members. We are encouraged to go to Dometic’s Facebook page and comment on the items we use. This assists the company in determining which products work or what might need to be changed to better service their customers.
Bill Smith suggested we develop a letterhead for the club to send thank you notes to companies where appropriate. Becky said she could easily make thank you cards for that use.
Deb asked if we would get updated addresses on those members that are in the process of moving. Pat will work on that update for Jean Ann and Frank.
Rich and Linda thanked everyone for the support they have received during Linda’s illness.
Wagonmaster, John, talked briefly about making next year’s camping sites closer to ‘home’ so that those folks no longer in campers will be able to drive in for meals, etc.
We also talked about utilizing the club banner at campouts to possibly draw new members to join us.
Rich has offered to make a collage of member pictures. Send selfies to Rich by Facebook, text message, email..however you want to get them to him. I look forward to the collage!
Bill Smith made a motion to close the meeting. Keith seconded and our meeting was adjourned.
NOTES: In spite of temps in the 90’s, we managed a lot of outdoor time with the help of Jerry’s canopy, and fans. I believe one of the couples hiked a trail in the park, but most of us stayed close to sites! Some did venture out to a good place for lunch and ice cream treats called 62 Twist, on Highway 62, and not very far from park entrance.
On Saturday afternoon, Tom and Judy McNulty came for a visit. Judy may be facing another back surgery, so should be added to our prayer list. As we gathered in the shade, Root Beer floats finished up the ice cream and cooled the tummys.
While we were at the Hess’s, we enjoyed seeing their ‘new’ to them Class B motorhome. It is a really neat unit and will enable them to camp with us again.
On a sad note, we got news on 6/13, that Jean and Butch Cooks sweet dog, Heidi, died suddenly. Totally unexpected. Heidi has been camping with us for 5 years.
Also, near death is Nicky, the elderly dog of Mary Brown, and another faithful camper for many years, These animals are more than ‘pets’, and we extend sympathy to Mary, Jean and Butch.
Until next month at Versailles,
Becky Colbert

Those attending: Bodines, Bumps, Cooks, Sodergren, Judds, Vucksons
On Saturday night after hospitality we held our meeting.
We gave the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were no minutes from the September meeting at Turkey Run as there was no meeting.

Newsy notes:
Mel, Bodines, and Judds arrived on Thursday. Bumps were here and spent the afternoon and evening with us.
The golfers played on Friday. The Bumps found a cheese shop in the area and walked 2 1/2 miles at Barren
River State Park. Friday the Vucksons and Cooks arrived. The day had been beautiful but turned a bit cool
and quite rainy in the afternoon. Hospitality was moved to Saturday evening to escape the rainfall. Everyone
including the Bumps went to A Little Taste of Texas for dinner. The wait was 45 minutes so some shopping
occurred while the Bumps held the space in line. All 11 of us were seated and had great meals.
Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for golfing for the fellas. Bodine stayed at the camper to get ready for
hospitality…..actually to watch westerns. While Deb, Jean, and Pat went to Smith’s Grove to Whittle’s fabric
store. There were walks in the park on Saturday. You can easily reach the 2 mile mark without seeing even
half the campsites.
Hospitality was held on Saturday evening with a nice campfire. The campground was holding Halloween
decorating, pumpkin carving, and costume contests. Trick or treating was held between 6-7:30 on Saturday
night. Mel and Butch were our candy front men. There were some cute costumes and some sweet little ones.
Later in the evening Uncle Sam came through the park all illuminated with red, white, and blue lights.
Mel, Cooks, Judds, and Vucksons spent Sunday evening at Bailey’s Point too. Mel, Jerry, Ron, and Butch
went off to chase the little white ball again. The rest of us took a walk through the park. Sofie was tuckered
out after the jaunt. :o)
September, 2015, Sunny Memories Campout at Turkey Run State Park.
There were 6 units present, the Bodines, Colberts, Cooks, Judds, McPhersons, and Vucksons. McPhersons were hosts this weekend, and provided a great hospitality time.
Most arrived on Thursday, September 10, and the weather was beautiful. On Friday, it rained all morning so the golf didn’t happen. We decided to have our meal at the Inn on Friday, anticipating more rain. Turned out to be a nice evening, so we had our usual time around the fire after a really good buffet at the Lodge. The ladies had spent some time in Rockville, at the amazing dime store that has EVERYTHING!
On Saturday, we went to Bridgeton, expecting a festival, but apparently missed it! We saw covered bridges, of course, and had a very good lunch in Rockville.
Hospitality happened in the rain that evening, but with canopies, umbrellas, etc. we had a campfire, and a great meal. Earlier in the day, there was some trail walking, and on Sunday, when some stayed over, I understand Trails 5 & 6 were undertaken. It truly is a beautiful place, and best seen on the trails.
Sometime in between all this, we had a very casual meeting, not having any old or new business or activity in the treasury. Birthdays this month are Keith and Rich. Ron & Nancy celebrated a wedding anniversary.
We always enjoy spending time together, and miss those who could not join us.
With only one campout left, our camping season is almost over, and some of the snowbirds will be leaving soon after. So, look forward to October at Bailey’s Point, and enjoy that special campground and lake. Don’t forget we’ll be deciding on campgrounds next month!
Becky Colbert, Secretary,
P.S., Just a few days ago, Linda Young let us know she is facing a very difficult health issue. She has pneumonia, and a mass in her rt. lung was discovered....so please keep them both in your prayers. Not sure who all got the email.
Sunny Memories Minutes for August 2015

Members and guests staying at the Park Lodge were McNultys, Mary Brown, Jean Ann Brooks, Hursts, Rutters, and Youngs. Great turnout of 22 folks!
Pat asked if any questions about the minutes distributed by email. No corrections offered, and Keith moved to accept the minutes. Jean C. seconded.
Treasurers report - Jean C reports $218 in general fund, $95 bereavement, for total of $313. Linda moved to accept report, and Mary seconded.
Pat thanked the Colberts and Hursts for hosting, as well as others who ‘pitched in’.
Birthdays this month are, Debbie B. Becky C. Frank McP. Charlotte C., Jerry J., Ron V., and Butch C. The Hess’s celebrate an Anniversary this month.
Prayer Requests - Jean Cook requests prayer for her neighbor’s two nephews, both young men with very serious health problems right now. (Many of us have met her neighbor, Thelma Banet).
Old Business: Pat reports that audit of treasury was performed and approved.
New Business: Pat asked for us to turn in our campground preferences for 2016. They will be voted on at the October meeting.
Next month we’ll be at Turkey Run State Park, and McPhersons will Host.
Becky reported that Dave Bump had called. As they were unable to attend this month, Dave wanted to let us know they have made the decision to sell their unit. He is offering some extension cords, hoses, an awning screen, etc. If anyone could use them, they need to call Dave. They will become one of the ‘Lodge Bunch’ we hope.
Charlie made a motion to adjourn, Jean Ann seconded. Jean Rutter closed the meeting with prayer.
Respectfully Submitted
Becky Colbert, Secretary
BECKY’S NOTES
Another great weekend, with pleasant weather and the best of friends! A familiar campground that has water hookups if hose is long enough. I was thrilled! This was another weekday campout, with most coming in on Sunday afternoon. Cooks came in on Saturday and filled us in on a big rally of old, restored trailers that had been there until Sunday. We noticed a ‘loose dog’ running around. Unusual.
On Monday we mostly visited, and hoped it would not rain. It didn’t, and hospitality was held outside, with a grill replacing the campfire for the hot dogs. In the meantime, the loose dog takes up residence at Colberts Site, and begins to act very lazy, possibly sick. Got a hold of Park people, and someone came and got him. It was pitiful. Some people who were leaving on Monday told us the dog had been loose for a couple of days and they felt someone had ‘dumped’ or abandoned the old fella. This was a new experience for our group, and will become part of the club collection of campfire stories.
During hospitality time, Pat unveiled a beautiful Birthday Cake in honor of all August Birthdays. We even sang Happy Birthday to all of us! The cake was mysteriously donated, and much appreciated!
On Tuesday (I’m getting the hang of weekday campouts now.) we enjoyed a breakfast outside, with the men making pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, and other good stuff shared by many. Something about eating outside ……special. That afternoon some went to the Gus Grissom Memorial at the park entrance. It has the space capsule, and other artifacts, as well as interactive activities. The Pioneer Village and Mill is always interesting, and there were interpreters there. I saw Pat come back with some freshly ground corn meal.
We were surprised to see the Hess’s pull in for a visit that afternoon, and they stayed for dinner at the Lodge….we made a very long table!
The rain held off until Wednesday morning, when we left with some sprinkles coming down.
Hope those who couldn’t be there enjoyed this little recap of our campout. It was so good to see some who hadn’t been able to join us for a while.
May God bless and keep you all until we camp again!
Sunny Memories Meeting, July 13, 2015.
Meeting called to order on Monday, July 13, at Starve Hollow SRA, by Pat Judd, President.
Meeting opened with the Pledge to the flag, which was held by Debbie Bodine.
Seven Units here, the Bodines, Bumps, Colberts, Colemans, Cooks, Judds, and McPhersons.
Jean Cook reports no change in treasury since last month.
Pat says that Debbie Bodine has agreed to do the annual audit.
Thanks to the Cooks for great hospitality and for hosting this weekend.
Belated birthday wishes for Joy, and Marilyn, with birthdays to come this month for Linda and Patty. Happy Anniversary to the McNulty’s…we think it is 53 years!
There was a prayer request for Jean Cook’s brother Warren Mull, who has widespread cancer.
There was no OLD BUSINESS
NEW BUSINESS: The Judd’s took a road trip and checked out the Hardin Ridge Campground, but found it unsuitable for our group.
August campout starts on Sunday, Aug. 16, at Spring Mill SP. Colberts are hosting, and Pat has heard that the Youngs, Jean Ann, and Mary plan to attend.
We will probably eat at the Lodge that weekend.
Plans are for us to eat at a Mexican Restaurant in Brownstown tomorrow, Tuesday, at 5:00.
Dave Bump moved to adjourn, John Bodine seconded. All agreed, and the meeting was closed with prayer led by John.
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Colbert, Secretary
BECKY’S NOTES
I personally have trouble remembering what day it is when we start campout on Sunday! Cooks and McPhersons came in on Saturday, and enjoyed a buffet meal in Seymour, before storms came through that night. Electricity was off for a while Sunday morning, but by the afternoon, weather was clear, just hot and humid. Monday morning was clear, and guys headed out to play golf, while some gals went shopping. At around 2, a storm came through with tornado warnings for the area. Park Rangers wanted folks to go to bathhouse, so John banged on trailers alerting all of us. The golfers got back just in time for this, so there we were, all slightly damp, with cell phones in hand, dogs on leash, hanging out at the bathhouse while it poured down rain. Pat very thoughtfully grabbed a tote bag with water bottles, snacks, gatorade, and I don’t know what else. That came in handy especially for the golfers! The storm soon passed, leaving no damage, and some cooler, drier air. Cooks set up hospitality at the vacant handicapped site next to the bathhouse, where there was plenty of concrete. The boys got a fire going (don’t know how Butch kept the wood dry !!!) so we got to have our hot dogs cooked over the fire the way we like them. It was a great spread, with a table full of desserts to top off the meal. Jean thanked all who ‘pitched in’. We couldn’t believe how pleasant it was and enjoyed the fellowship for several hours.
I want to say ‘Saturday’, but on TUESDAY, all was quiet, sunny, and pleasant. A good day to walk, relax, and visit. The Colemans were happy with their visit to the nearby farm market store. We all went to the Azteca mexican restaurant in Brownstown….in an interesting building, sort of half buried…very colorful inside, and a nice variety on a buffet, plus menu. Later, we didn’t start a campfire, but we made our circle and enjoyed a comfortable evening outside.
The weather forecast going into this campout was not good at all, and I thought it would be a ‘washout’….however, we were blessed once again, and enjoyed our time outside, and with each other.
Happy Trails to all!
June 12, 2015 Minutes
Sunny Memories campout was held at Brookville Lake SRA the weekend of June 11, with 7 units participating, the Judds, Bodines, Cooks, Bumps, Colberts, Vucksons and Smiths.
President Pat Judd called the brief meeting to order on Friday, June 12. There was no old or new business, but we are celebrating the Judd’s anniversary and Bill Smith’s birthday this month. No treasurer’s report. There were no prayer requests. It was decided that we would eat out at Ainsley’s Restaurant on the lake on Saturday at 5:00. The Judd’s were hosts and did a great job as usual. Next month we will be at Starve Hollow, and Cooks will be hosting.
Dave Bump moved to adjourn, and all agreed.
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Colbert, Secretary.
NOTES: Once again, we got lucky with the weather, and were able to have all activities outside, and time around the fire pit. Did have a fire to cook hot dogs for hospitality. It was good to have the Smith’s join us as we hadn’t seen them since last year. The Bodine’s were joined by their family, so we got to meet the children, spouses, and sweet grand babies. The Bumps youngest grandson was there as well. The guys got to play golf on a (reportedly) beautiful golf course, and finished just before a rain storm came through. The Bumps explored the area with Hayden, finding things of interest. Pat, Becky and Jean went to Liberty and discovered the Liberty Bell, where I had one of the best tenderloin sandwiches ever. (looked like a favorite with the locals.) Pat & Jean went on to shop. On Saturday, Keith and I drove some very winding back roads to Oldenburg…I wanted to see the Churches. They are known for their Church Spires. It is a small town, was very quiet, but we came across the Creche Shop, where we met the craftsman who makes beautifully made stables for nativity sets. We usually visit Metamora, and some did venture there on Wed., but due to road construction and closures, apparently it was an adventure just to get there. Not much open, but weekends are probably better.
We enjoyed the meal at Ainsley’s…a very well known restaurant in the area, and located at a marina with beautiful view of the lake. I believe everyone was happy with their food, I know Ron Vuckson and I were very happy with the Walleye Pike…seldom seen on menus further south.
Well, I’m way late getting this typed up, and due to poor note taking, I may have forgotten something.
Looking forward to Starve Hollow!
May 2015-

!
BECKY’S NOTES
Starting on Thursday, we enjoyed this beautiful park and surrounding area.
Warm & breezy, it felt good to be outside. Just a short walk through the
campground to Lake Lincoln, and a 2.5 mile hiking trail around the lake. This
was not for everyone, so a special recognition to Judds, Keith, Mel & Sophie
the dog for making it all the way around. (Didn’t hear anyone else say they
did this.)
Friday morning, 6 golfers hit the links at Christmas Lakes. Some went to the
Lincoln Boyhood Home National Park, just across from entrance to State Park.
Pat, Jean, Marilyn and Debbie found a special trail, promoted by a Chamber of
Commerce. Yard Sales in Huntingburg area! No one could agree on how many
stops they made, but bargains were found! In the meantime, the Bumps
discovered Wineries and the Tell City Pretzel Factory, bringing back samples!
Since there was no one host, we all pitched in for hospitality time, using a big
shelter house inside the Campground. Jerry brought his electric grill and
cooked our hot dogs. Good thing, too, as a shower came up while we were
eating. The Hursts came for the day, so there was catching up and great
fellowship.
Saturday morning, in honor of Mothers Day, the men cooked a really big
breakfast at the shelter house. (Love those outdoor breakfasts). It was a
real treat, continuing our club tradition of good food and lots of it!
Afterwards, Pat skillfully conducted her first meeting as president. Then, the
ladies had a craft project, covering glass ‘jars’ with fabric and mod podge to
make a candle holder (LED candle). Thank you, Pat!
Some showers in the afternoon, so time for reading, and a nap. Our evening
meal was at The Chateau in Mariah Hill. Good stuff and a beautiful drive.
Our group was seated in the bar area with big TV screens, so there was some
entertainment provided.
At last, we close out the evening around a CAMPFIRE (thank you for the
wood, John), and some good STORIES! It was the perfect ending to the
weekend.
(Colberts and Bumps left Sunday morning, some were staying another night, so
if anything exciting to report, you will have to get it from them!)I will get these posted at a later date.
The October 2014 meeting of Sunny Memories was held at Brown County SP on 10/13/14. Those present were the Cooks, Colberts, Bodines, Bumps, Judds, McPhersons, Rutters, Sondergren, Brown, and Brooks. Guests were Joel Bump and his boys, and Terra Williams (Mary’s daughter).
The meeting was called to order by president, Keith Colbert, who led the Pledge of Allegiance, and welcomed all who came.
Since the minutes had been sent out and posted on the blog site as well, everyone had the opportunity of reading them. There were no corrections or additions, the motion was made by Pat to accept, seconded by Dave, and approved.
Treasurer, Jean Cook, reported 3 members paid dues, $40 bereavement gift to Hess’s, with a balance of $318 ($60, bereavement, $258 in general fund).
Mary made motion to accept report, and Joy seconded. The report was duly accepted.
Becky reported that the bereavement gift for Hess’s was a large mum, with some cash which was used to buy candy for residents in home where Terry lived, to give to children at Halloween. Hess’s were very appreciative of this, and especially the friendship of club
members.
Keith thanked Bumps for the great hospitality time tonight.
October birthdays were recognized, Pat Judd, Judy McNulty, and Bob Rutter. Also noted that Hursts have a wedding anniversary this month.
Prayer requests mentioned were for Alicia, chemo has started. for Donnie Brooks, early prostate cancer diagnoses with surgery pending. for Eric Simmons (Keith’s nephew) recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Has had surgery, and will have 6 mos. of chemo.
OLD BUSINESS:
Since we always make a charitable donation from our treasury at the end of the year, Keith asked for suggestions of charity for this year. After some discussion, Dave made a motion to give $100 to the Lighthouse, an after school ministry to children located in the Newburg area of Louisville. Mary seconded, and the motion was unanimously passed. Jean Cook gave the donation to Mel, who will deliver the gift to this ministry.
Results of Campground preferences for 2015 were handed out to everyone, and Keith asked for any discussion. There were 6 campgrounds who had highest scores, and 4 others who had 1 or 2 points. No one seemed to have anything to add or changes to make.
The following campgrounds, hosts, and whether camping would be over the weekend, or mid week were selected:
May 8-10 - - Lincoln State Park - weekend - No host right now.
June 12-14 -- Mounds (Brookville) - weekend - Judds
July 12-14 - - Starve Hollow - mid-week - Cooks
August 16-18 -- Spring Mill SP - mid-week - Colberts
September 11-13 -- Turkey Run SP - weekend - McPhersons
October 9-11 -- Bailey’s Point (Corps of Engineers) - weekend - Bodines
Dave Bump made a motion we accept these choices, Jerry seconded, and motion was unanimously carried.
The slate of officers for 1015, as presented by nominating committee was read as follows:
President - Pat Judd
Vice-President - John Bodine
Secretary - Becky Colbert
Treasurer - Jean Cook
Keith asked if there were any other nominations. There were none.
Dave Bump moved to accept these nominations for 2015. Jerry seconded, and the motion was unanimously passed.
On behalf of the club, Jerry made a presentation of a DNR gift card and cash to outgoing president Keith, in appreciation of his 2 years as club president.
Keith then passed the gavel to Pat Judd, the incoming president for 2015.
Jerry made the motion to adjourn the meeting, and Pat seconded. Motion carried, and John Bodine closed meeting with prayer.
Later, we were reminded that on Oct. 24, from 5-7, the Hess’s will have an Open House to remember their son, Terry.
We will be eating dinner together tomorrow night at The Seasons Restaurant at 5:30.
Respectfully Submitted,
Becky Colbert, Acting Secretary.
NOTES:
We had a great time together, in spite of a lot of rain on this last campout of the year.
On Sunday evening, we enjoyed a wine & cheese tasting around a warm campfire, until the sprinkles came just before bedtime. Monday started out rainy, but cleared off by noon. Some went into Nashville to shop and look around. We planned to do crafts today, and the weather was threatening at times. Mary found out we could use a really nice big building at the campground entrance for free...it was full of picnic tables, windows all around, hardwood floor, spotlesslly clean...We ‘moved in’, did our crafts, Jerry brought his gas grill over to cook the hot dogs, had our hospitality, and meeting, then returned to our campfire for a little more time before bedtime. Not long after, a heavy rain started, and continued until late morning on Tues.
Mary brought everything we needed to make some really cute scarecrows made from wine corks, beads, jute, yarn, ping pong balls, etc. (pictures will be posted on blog). Jean Cook showed us how to make fire starters from cardboard egg cartons, lint, and melted wax. Thanks to Mary’s yard sale expertise we had plenty of candles to be melted down, and egg cartons. Jean got bags full of lint at a laundromat, and we ended up with several bags of fire starters for next year’s camping season! We really appreciated their leading us in this afternoon of “crafting”.
On Tuesday...more rain early, so we got the key to the building again, and set up for card games, snacks, sewing, and best of all, good fellowship! This building was a real blessing for us. The day was cool, but cleared off, and as always we enjoyed the fall colors coming out more and more.
Rich and Linda Young came down in the afternoon, and joined us for dinner. There were 19 of us at The Seasons Lodge Restaurant, with a group picture to follow. I personally enjoyed the fried chicken, but they had great catfish, fettuccine, ham, fried biscuits/apple butter, salad bar...I could go on and on.
Just talked to Bob Hess (10/19), and they have an out of town, family wedding the first weekend in December, and will probably be gone the next weekend as well. Keith and I are wondering how many will be here in December. We will be seeing the Hess’s this Friday at their open house.
Several of our group are heading south soon, and some are already there. May God bless and keep us all until we camp together again!
The August meeting of Sunny Memories was held on August 8, at Clifty Falls State Park. The meeting was called to order by president, Keith Colbert, and opened with the Pledge to the Flag. Keith thanked Mary Brown and Jean Rutter for the great hospitality time.
There are 10 units present, the Bumps, Cooks, Colberts, Judds, Vucksons, Smiths, Youngs, Reeves, Rutters, Bodine’s, with Jean Ann Brooks, and Mary Brown joining us while staying at the Lodge.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from July. Reading minutes was suspended, since everyone has had access to the minutes online.
Jean Cook gave the Treasurer’s report, both funds totaling $342.87. During the meeting, 13 cents was donated to round up the total to $343.
Birthdays for August were mentioned. Butch Cook, Becky Colbert, Charlotte Coleman, Jerry Judd, Ron Vuckson and Debbie Bodine. Anniversary this month is Bob & Rita Hess, their 64th.
Prayer Requests: Jean Ann will have knee replacement on Monday, 8/11. Mary will have throat surgery, and removal of the trach on Wed., 8/13. Mary also requested prayer for a friend who is recovering from lung surgery for cancer, especially for strength and any future treatments.
There was no Old Business.
New Business:
Keith asked for volunteers to serve as nominating committee for 2015 Officers. John Bodine agreed to head this committee. The current president and vice president have both served 2 terms. Election of officers will be at the October meeting.
It’s time to send in campground preferences for 2015. Keith asks that each unit choose top 3, in order of preference, and send to him. Results will be weighted by numbers and presented for voting at October meeting.
Rich & Linda Young told us they are taking their camper to their daughter in Oregon, and will leave it there for indefinite time. They hope to remain active in the club!
Jerry reminded us to watch for potential members.
Next month’s camping is at General Butler State Park in Carrollton, KY. Motion made by Mary, seconded by Dave, and passed, to have Sat. dinner at the Lodge. Jerry will have group breakfast on Sat. morning, with the rest of us pitching in. (Becky is already committed to bring scrambled eggs!) It would be helpful to let Jerry know what you are bringing.
Dave made a motion to adjourn, it was seconded, and Jean Rutter closed the meeting with prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Colbert, acting secretary
Addendum: just after closing, Keith asked the group if they would be in favor of using Club funds to purchase a cake for the Hess’s, other expenditures for group use such as firewood when members can’t bring their own, and this was agreed to by all.
Becky’s Notes:
Clifty Falls is a favorite campground, and we know our way around the area pretty good. Pat always finds quilt shops, this time there were two. Several ladies found things they needed for their sewing/quilting projects. Since it was a rainy weekend, shopping was a good activity. We also discovered the Broadway Hotel in Madison, for a ‘snack’ on Friday afternoon. Another historical building, they have atmosphere and good food. I understand that some even went back there for Sunday dinner!
The Bumps found the old Train Depot and a good museum.
The boys got in 9 holes on a golf course nearby on Thursday. Got rained out on Fri.
We dealt with the rain by putting up 3 canopies added onto Jerry’s awning, so we managed our hospitality time and comaraderie in a cozy, dry place. John Bodine even had a couple of patio rugs that made our shelter very nice.
In between showers, several made their way to Madison, to do some sightseeing. It is a beautiful river town, full of history, restored homes and buildings, shops and restaurants.
On Friday, Jean Ann and Mary joined us, having obtained a room at the nearby Lodge. On Saturday, Charley & Vickie Hurst and Bob & Rita Hess joined us for a visit at the campground and dinner at the Lodge. Since they don’t camp any more, they seemed to really enjoy the campground atmosphere! We were so happy to see everyone who came! Since it happened to be very close to the Hess’s 64th wedding anniversary, we decided to surprise them with a decorated cake (from Kroger), and ice cream. Bob & Rita were truly surprised and touched by this, and we all enjoyed dessert before going to the Lodge for a really good buffet dinner.
It didn’t rain all the time, and when it did, we didn’t let it stop us from catching up on each other’s lives and telling stories! It was a great time of fellowship.
As I write this, it is Tuesday, Aug. 12. Jean Ann did great with her knee surgery yesterday, and we know Mary will have a good outcome with her surgery tomorrow!
God Bless you All!
The July, 2014, meeting of Sunny Memories was held on Friday, July 11, at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground in Lexington, KY. There were 5 units attending, the Bumps, Cooks, Colberts, Judds, and McPhersons who just rejoined us. Jean Ann Brooks came and Norm & Wendy Wesley. They live in Somerset and are friends of the Judds.
Keith Colbert called the meeting to order, and we opened with the Pledge of Allegience.
Guests were welcomed.
Since the minutes were sent out and read, a motion was made by Pat to accept the minutes without any corrections. Jean seconded, and minutes were passed.
Jean Cook gave the Treasurer’s report as unchanged from the previous month.
Total of bereavement and regular fund is $327.87.
Keith thanked the hospitality hosts and others who pitched in with goodies.
Celebrating birthdays this month is Joy Bump, Charley Hurst, Linda Young, Patty Johnson, and Dan Adams. Since Joy’s birthday was on the 9th, we sang Happy Birthday to her. Tom & Judy McNulty will celebrate their 52nd Anniversary this month.
Prayers were suggested for Jean Ann who will have knee surgery on 8/11, and for Mary’s next surgery on 8/13. Thankful for safe travels we have had.
OLD BUSINESS: Plans for eating out on Saturday were completed. We will go to The Columbia Steakhouse in Lexington.
Mary and Pat will be updating the roster, as there are some address changes.
Dave Bump still has some magnets with the camping schedule.
Pat says Nancy Vuckson sends greetings to the club.
NEW BUSINESS: Dave Bump tells us that if we want to visit the Horse Park Complex, discounted tickets are available at the Camp Store, as well as shuttle service. He gave us a review of all the events going on there.
Keith asked if there was any interest in finding another sponsor for the club, and the consensus was negative. Dave Bump had approached Edmundson’s RV in the past, and they had no interest in being a sponsor.
August campout will be at Clifty Falls State Park, with Mary Brown hosting.
It was decided we would eat at the Lodge on Saturday.
The motion was made to adjourn, and Keith closed with prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Colbert, acting secretary.
NOTES: Once again, we had good weather! Lots of shade trees, and a breeze most of the time. A big campground, that was nearly full. The Horse Park had a lot going on, and most of us spent some time there. Pat’s niece, Luann Vuckson, was at the Horse Park and visited us at the campground. We enjoyed meeting this lovely young woman. (Ron & Nancy’s daughter). The Bump grandsons, Christian and Hayden, joined us again, and we had two well behaved dogs, Heidi Jolene Cook and Lucky Wesley who could melt you with his big eyes while waiting for you to finish your ice cream and give him the bowl. There was the usual shopping expedition to a quilt shop, and three of us had lunch at a Chick-fil-A on the day they had a special promotion. If you dressed like a cow, you ate free. We didn’t know about this, so we had to pay, but the entertainment of seeing everyone else in some form of cow get-up was worth every penny.
The golfers got in their 18 holes as usual, with no stories to tell.
We enjoyed a good meal at the Columbia Steakhouse, including an unusual appetizer shared by Butch. Lamb fries... was unforgettable. Look it up. We did.
The weekend went by quickly, and although there were no campfires, we still enjoyed the circle of friends. We’ll be back at a familiar campground in August, and hope to see you there!
The June, 2014, meeting of Sunny Memories was held on Friday, June 13, at Starve Hollow SRA. There were 7 units present, the Bodines, Bumps, Colberts, Cooks, Judds, Smiths, and Sondergren.
The meeting was called to order by the president, Keith Colbert, and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Keith thanked the Cooks for the great hospitality time.
Minutes from the May meeting were approved.
Treasurer, Jean Cook, reports $75 in dues collected. (portion of which goes into bereavement fund). There has been one disbursement from bereavement fund of $40 to family of Angie Bump, the daughter in law of Dave & Joy. A thank you card was received, and Joy spoke of the family’s appreciation of the gift (donated to American Cancer Society in Angie’s memory) and the many cards sent to Angie in her last weeks.
The total in General Fund is now $247.87 and Bereavement Fund $80, for a total of $327.87.
Treasurer’s report approved.
Celebrating a birthday this month is Bill Smith, and the Judds will celebrate a wedding anniversary.
Prayer requests include Mary Brown, who will have more throat surgery on June 26th.
Old Business: reference earlier discussion of a possible joint campout with the Indiana chapter of WIT (Winnebago), an email was read from Pat Judd to a member of Who’s Yur Winnies. Pat included the link to our blog site for camping schedule, and asked that it be passed along to Bruce Barta. It was felt that a joint campout would be unlikely.
There was a discussion of growing membership, and we were encouraged to be aware of any potential members, regardless of type of unit.
New Business: The Bodines have a new address, and so do the Youngs. The Roster will be updated accordingly. Any one with changes should let us know.
Mary Brown will be doing the updating. mary_russel@yahoo.com
The July campout will be at the Kentucky Horse Park, Colberts will host.
Decision was made to eat out instead of having a pitch in.
Also, Becky still has a couple of magnets with camping schedule if anyone needs one. Dave Bump makes these and he has a few more as well.
Bill Smith made motion to adjourn, and Dave Bump seconded. Carried.
Meeting was closed with prayer by Keith Colbert
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Colbert, Acting Secretary
NOTES:
Starve Hollow has been a favorite campground and I, personally, have good memories of past campouts here. More memories were made this weekend, as we enjoyed our time together with such good friends, good food, and good weather. We enjoyed having some kids (age wise) with us. The Bumps brought their grandsons, and Mel had his two grandkids with him...they were very easy and enjoyable to have around...then there are our 4 legged camping buddies, which always entertain!
Campfires were possible and enjoyed....the pitch in on Saturday was delicious with some new recipes being offered with much success. The Bumps found a scenic drive with stunning views of the hilly area in the National Forest in Jackson County, and I understand Grandpa and the boys climbed the Fire Tower for some great pictures/views. The quilters visited a very nice shop in Brownstown, and of course, the golfers enjoyed playing twice, with scores not revealed.
We look forward to July, and exploring the Lexington, KY, area again. It’s been quite a few years since we’ve been there.
May God bless you all and keep you safe.

Sheila Reeves is adding $5 to the Bereavement Fund after a gentleman gave Jim the
money to donate after he apologized for getting in their way at a pump when they were
filling up the camper.
We thanked our hosts, Dave and Joy Bump for a wonderful Friday hospitality.
Birthdays for the month: Becky Colbert, Jerry Judd, Butch Cook, Ron Vuckson, and
Charlotte Coleman and Frank McPherson.
We sang Happy Birthday to them.
Keith gave a brief description of the July meeting and the Celebration of Life where 32
folks came to remember three very special members that have passed on.
Those memories is what we are all about ....don’t wait to tell someone how you feel
about them..do it NOW. Also, it doesn’t matter if we come camping in a horse and
buggy you are welcome.
Good memories - Greater Life.
Hess’s may visit with us on Saturday. This month is their 63rd Anniversary. Happy
Anniversary.
Keith read a email note from Patty and Dan Johnson, who were wagon masters for
Sunny Travelers. They are unable to attend our October campout since they will be in
Albeqerque, N. They are working with WIT Club WagonMasters.
They have also approached the Indy Bagos in Central Indiana about having a joint rally
at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds next year. They will give us more updates at our
September Campout.
Old Business: After some discussions concerning shirts for the camp club members.
Dave Bump prosed that we drop the shirt issue. Rich Young seconded the motion and it
carried.
New Business:
Mary brought up that several members would not be at the October meeting where we
typically elect officers and select campsites for the coming year, that maybe we should
elect officers and select campgrounds at the September meeting.
After polling the members present and about half of our members present would be at
each of the September and October campouts. It was determined that we would ask
members to send 3 choices for campgrounds to the Secretary before the September
campout. Pat will compile the suggestions and then we can still vote on them at the
October meeting with input from the entire club.
Linda Young brought up the possibility of “camping” without campers for our April
meeting by meeting somewhere that has cabins or lodges where we can gather without
worrying about the weather. That seemed like a good idea to many. So we could
incorporate that in our campout plans for 2014.
Prayer concerns: Rita Hess
Praises: New great grandson for Sheila and Jim.
Crafts will be at 9:30 on Saturday.
Dinner Saturday at the Lodge: 5:30.
Mary motioned that meeting be closed and Linda Young seconded the motion.
Meeting was adjourned with Prayer by Jerry Judd.

and Judds.

June minutes were approved as corrected. Treasurer’s Report was corrected to show
General Fun having $192.87 and the Bereavement Fund having $125.00 as of July 8)
Motion made by Ron Vuckson and seconded by Becky Colbert.
President Keith Colbert Thanked the Judd’s for hosting the weekend.
B-days: Charlie Hurst, Dan Adams, and Linda Young.
Anniversary: 51st for the McNulty’s.
No spoken prayer requests were made.
OLD BUSINESS:
Thanks to the Bumps for guidance on the Madison Bridge closure.
Concerning meeting with another club from surrounding states: Keith received e-mail
from an IL person. Keith responded to the question but has not heard back from the
emailer as yet.
General consensus of our chapter is that we could be willing to meet with another group
if the location and time allowed and if it is just one meeting and not a continual prospect.
For those that were not in attendance in June, Keith explained that Dan and Patty
Johnson had resigned from Sunny Travelers as Tour Guides but still planned on
camping with us when they can. Also explained that the International Rally in York, PA
had been cancelled. There were not sufficient registrations at the time the facility had
be reserved. Dan and Patty are interested in securing a spot with Winnebago Industries
but have been told there were no current openings. The Johnson’s are attending the
WIT (Winnegabo) Grand National Rally this month.
Again the general consensus is that Sunny Memories will remain a chapter of Sunny
Travelers as long as it is in existence. We are welcome to attend the WIT National Rally
if we are in a SunnyBrook or a Winnebago Industries unit.
Chapter 19 will remain a family group.
New Business:
There have been several email address changes and Pat will update the roster for
those received this weekend.
Our club will continue meeting six times a year (May through October), with October
being the election for new officers and payment of dues.
We will continue to have a SHORT business meeting at each campout. Our President
reminded us that if there is new business to be brought up in a meeting that he asks to
be notified before the meeting so that he can research any needed information in an
effort to keep the meetings short throughout the camping season.
It was noted that Crafts will be on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Becky is going to show
us how to make a card with a “Kleenex” box on the front to send to someone who has
been ill.
Celebration of Life for Betty Pack, Russel Brown, and Gene Brooks will be at 3:30
Saturday afternoon, July 13th.
Dinner on Saturday night is at Two Rivers Lodge Dining room.
August Campout is at Spring Mill State Park, Mitchell Indiana.
No Crafts scheduled at this time.
Saturday evening meal will be at the Spring Mill Inn.
Mary Brown closed our meeting out with prayer.

Saturday, our men went to the Barren River State Park and played golf.

President Keith Colbert opened our meeting and we said the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Keith brought up that minutes and treasurer’s reports could be emailed or snail mailed to all members before the next meeting and corrections could be made prior to the next monthly meeting, allowing for waiving the reading of these reports at each meeting. Mel moved that the monthly reading of theTreasurer’s Report and the Minutes be suspended for 2013 at our meetings. The reports will be provided to members before the meetings and any necessary corrections can be made before the next rally.
