NOTES for Sunny Memories Camping, JULY 13-16, 2017
We were 6 units this month at Versailles State Park - Bodines, Colberts, Colemans, Judds, McPhersons, and Smiths. We had good sites, and good weather. Colemans had the most shade, so we had campfires and conversations there until Colemans left on Saturday.
The Colberts especially appreciated Dexter’s help in getting our board water tank to fill….it’s been a problem for years, and he found a solution that allowed us to have plenty of on board water….(this is especially important to Becky !!!).
Saturday morning the golfers left for what turned out to be a beautiful golf course near Milan. Thankfully, Pat had the car, so some of us went into Versailles to sight see, shop, eat, etc. The Visitor’s Center lady was very helpful, loading us up with brochures, maps, and suggestions. We had seen, and read about, an unusual Methodist Church in town, (called the Tyson Temple), and this time we were able to go inside. It was beautiful, and has such an interesting history. Never know what you will find in a small town. We enjoyed browsing a shop or two, quilt store stop (of course), a large Amish bakery and deli/grocery store on 421 a few miles out, and finally lunch at the local Dairy Queen on a picnic table outside.
Our hospitality time was hosted by McPhersons, and it was yummy! Thank you, Marilyn!
If we gave a prize for most unusual hot dog stick, it would have gone to Bill Smith….I’m not sure of the number, but it had “branches” on it that could accommodate quite a few dogs at a time.
Saturday did not have any group activities planned until the evening meal. The Colberts met their daughter at the Ertel Cellars Winery near Batesville for lunch, and brought her back to the campground for more visiting and meeting more of our friends. This included the Vucksons and the Hursts who drove up to visit and go to dinner with the Club.
At the suggestion of the Visitors Center lady, we went to the Osgood Grub Company in Osgood, IN, just a short drive from Versailles. A large family restaurant, they had a back room that would accommodate a large party. There were 15 of us, including Mary Brown who drove over to meet us at the restaurant. I understand the ribs, fried chicken and salmon were excellent choices. It was so good, that the Judds and Bodines returned on Sunday for their $10 buffet lunch!
After dinner, we returned to our campfire, altho we sat back a ways at first. Frank taught Becky to play Soduku, and Keith quickly picked up on the phone app version with Pat’s help. Eventually some of us got a little closer to the fire, as the day cooled off. Does this sound familiar? We think about, and miss all of you who have camped with us over the years,
Most of us left Sunday morning, but I know the Judds stayed over another night.
We will be at Clifty Falls for a weekday campout starting Sunday, 8/13. Colberts hosting.
Updates;
No new updates on Tom McNulty…keep them in your prayers, please.
Becky is doing well….trying to be stress-free as suggested. :)
Hope all of you are doing well, paying attention to any new problems/symptoms, and staying cool!
Happy Trails
Becky Colbert
