September 2017

NOTES for Sunny Memories camping, Sept. 7-10, 2017 at Charlestown State Park

Once again, we had great weather, campfires, and good fellowship for the weekend.  We had 5 units this time. Mel was back with us, the Smiths, Colberts, Bodines, and Judds.  In addition, we were happy to welcome Dennis and Karen…….. friends of the Bodines.  They were able to join us for two nights and we sure hope they will camp with us again!
As usual, the boys played golf, and the girls shopped!  Butch and Jean came over so Butch could play golf, and Jean to join up with the girls.  Charley and Vickie came for hospitality, and Bob and Rita joined us in time for dessert.  With everyone pitching in, we had another memorable meal and hot dog roast!
On Saturday, the Park was offering a guided tour and hike of Rose Island.  This is in the Ohio River, adjacent to the park and accessible by a bridge.  Formerly an amusement park and popular summer venue, it has a few remaining signs of its former glory.  Jerry and Pat were the brave ones to take this hike and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Pat has posted several very good pictures on the club’s Facebook page.
We had dinner on Saturday evening at the Copper Kettle, a family restaurant in Charlestown.  Charley and Vickie joined us again, and I believe all enjoyed their meal.  Becky & Keith left from there to attend a marching band contest in Columbus, IN (grandson involved)., but another campfire was on the agenda.
Sunday was another beautiful day, and very quiet in the campground.  Pat, Jerry and Mel stayed another night so the boys could golf one more time on Monday.
Only two September birthdays, Rich Young and Keith Colbert.  Vuckson’s will celebrate a wedding anniversary.
The McNulty’s are back in Indiana for the next year due to Tom’s medical issues and the need for another surgery.  They have an independent living Villa in New Albany, and right now are settling in and keeping numerous doctor appointments.
Our snowbirds are getting close to their return to FL, in fact, Rich is there now.  Southern Pines had some roof damage to the clubhouse, and there was a lot of debris, but looks like it will be ready for the winter.  Dave and Joy are returning from a train trip to the west coast, and I hope they will come to Brown County so we can hear about their latest adventures.
Our last campout of the year will be at Brown County State Park on October 15-18. (Weekdays).
Bodines are hosting, and we hope to see you there!
Happy Trails to all,
Becky Colbert
